Computer Genies of NW Iowa
3 January 1998
The Computer Genies of NW Iowa met
January 3, 1998 at the LeMars Public Library at 1:30 p.m.,
President Darrell Easton presiding.
Darrell told of two members who had died
recently, Rose DuVal "Duval" on Jan. 1 and Theodore
Moeller on Dec. 30. Sympathy cards were signed by the
members present.
The minutes were read and approved and the
treasurer's report, showing a balance of $160.55, was read and
accepted.
A miniature poinsettia was sent to the DuVals
before Christmas. There being no time to bring this before
a meeting, the membership approved it at this time.
Darrell mentioned the certificates for CD
rental/donations again. These certificates may be
purchased, as many as you want, to help boost the CD ROM fund at
any time. Anytime you wish to rent a CD, you may turn in a
certificate.
The Social Security CD will be ordered for our
library.
It was believed that an unintentional error
had been made in changing a by-law in May and June of 1997, this
being Article 5 Section 2 on officers and elections.
Motions were made and rescinded when it was found that the change
had evidently been made previously. The article read:
Upon acceptance of their nomination and election, officers shall
serve for a term of
one year and may be re-elected for one subsequent term in that
office.......
The change would read: Upon acceptance
of their nomination and elections officers shall serve for a term
of one year. Officers may be re-elected for additional
terms at the discretion of the members...... The words
"for one subsequent term" were changed to read "
for additional terms at the discretion of the members".
The matter of liability insurance was tabled
for one month. It will be voted on at the February meeting.
Good comments were made on the last
newsletter. A discussion was held about the cost and size
of the newsletter. It was decided that we keep it the same
number of pages, small enough so cost of mailing each one does
not exceed 78?.
Stan Bastman moved we keep our ad in the
Hawkeye Heritage. Ethel Heidesch seconded the motion. Motion
carried.
Each year before January 31, we will need to
pay sales tax we are a non-profit organization, but if the money
from sales is given to another non-profit organization, there is
no need to pay sales tax to IRS. But, if the money is kept
in the organization, we need to pay the sales tax.
The Heritage Quest will be in our area and we
will sponsor them in June or July. Marla Nelson moved we do
this, seconded by Verna Shockey. Motion carried.
A discussion on procedure for remembering our
deceased members was held.
Motions were made and dropped for lack of a
second or a favorable vote. We discussed the possibility of
sending plants or flowers; how much to spend; if a member loses a
relative, which relatives would warrant receiving regards;
memorials for members, not to "sxceed" exceed $25, to
the CD Fund, etc. Clay Nemmers moved we send cards to
deceased members' family and get-well cards to members, seconded
by DeBoom, motion
carried.
We still need an historian and a
secretary. Ethel Heidesch agreed to be the Historian.
No one volunteered for secretary. John Winterringer moved
and Frank Postma seconded a motion that the nominating committee
reconvene and have a secretary nominated for the February
meeting.
Kathy Fischer moved and Stan Bastman seconded
that the meeting be adjourned.
Darrell awarded some certificates to the
first 11 members who started our group four years ago. He
also presented certificates to charter members, with April
1994 being the cut-off date. He read the names of
those who had continuous membership for 4 years. He
had some nteresting statistics about our membership and the
Computer Genies.

$100. She would need about 5, plus colored paper. Other
