The Computer Genies
of NW Iowa met in the Le Mars Public Library at 1:30 P.M. with
President Darrell Easton presiding.
The secretary read the
minutes of the last meeting. They were approved as read.
Treasurer Kathy Fisher
reported a balance of $537.66 in the treasury. Stan Bastman moved
to accept the report and Ethel Heidesch seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
Everyone present was
introduced.
"Humanities
Iowa" will provide speakers if so desired. There is a charge
for these presentations.
The National Endowment
for the Humanities offers free guide books. The telephone number
is 1-800-234-5848 and the web site is www.myhistory.org.
Alvin Skou won the
drawing for the CD library for the month and Janice Albert will
have the Gedcom library.
Stan has 2 copies of
the 1999 queries that may be read.

The Computer Genies of NW Iowa met at the
Spencer Public Library at 1:30 PM. The meeting was called to
order by Vice-President Larry Bragwin. There were 16 people
in attendance.
In the treasurer's absence Larry reported a
balance of $627.66 in the treasury.
There was no old business.
For new business a motion was made and
seconded to pay John Thomas $25 for the April 2000 program. Lorna
Brandt showed the new front page for the newsletter. A motion was
made and approved to use this new page for future newsletters..
Lorna Brandt volunteered to take the CD
library home for one month: No one wanted the Gedcom
Library.
The April meeting will be held at the Aalfs
Public Library in Sioux City. John Thomas will give a
presentation on the Titanic.
Stan Bastman presented the program for the
afternoon. He gave a demonstration using the computer and
scanner.
Lunch was served by Marilyn Bastman.

The meeting of the Computer Genies of NW
Iowa was called to order by President Darrell Easton on April 1
in the Sioux City Wilbur Aalfs Library at 1:30 p.m. There were 17
people in attendance.
Everyone introduced themselves.
The secretarys and treasurers
reports were read and approved. Kathy reported a balance of
$657.66 in the treasury.
There was no old business.
A discussion was held about the possibility of
having a section on the homepage that would be accessible to
members only.
It was moved and seconded to send an e-mail to
members requesting them to return an e-mail with their e-mail
address plus the surnames that they are researching. Motion
carried.
Barbara Kamradt is having the 1913 to the
present time Hinton newspapers microfilmed. This will cost $700+
to do. Financial help with this project would be appreciated.
These would be kept in the Le Mars library.
Emma Ballinger took home the CD library. Edith
Staab took the Gedcom Library.
It was moved and seconded to adjourn.
Lunch was furnished by Kathy Fischer and Alvin Skow.

The meeting of the
Computer Genies of NW Iowa was called to order by President
Darrell Easton on May 6 in the Cherokee Library at 1:30 p.m.
There were 11 members and 1 guest present.
The minutes of the
previous meeting were read and approved.
A balance of $838.16
was reported in the treasury.
There was no old
business.
Stan Bastman presented
some bills. Larry Brangwin moved to pay the bills. Seconded and
carried.
Lori Curry of South
Sioux City is a new member.
Jim Bilsland moved
that the July meeting be canceled. Seconded and carried.
Darrell gave away 2
disks: Trip Maker and Address Book.
Lorna Brandt took the
Gedcom Library home.
Larry Brangwin moved
that the meeting adjourn. Seconded and carried.

The meeting of the
Computer Genies of NW Iowa was called to order by President
Darrell Easton on June 3 in the Le Mars Public Library Meeting
Room at 1:30 p.m.
The secretarys
report was read and approved. A correction was made in last
months treasurers report. The correct balance was
$858.16 instead of $838.16. The balance for today is $880.66.
Lorna Brandt will have
a newsletter ready at the end of the month. If you have
suggestions for it please send them to her.
Stan reported that the
TVator needs to be repaired or replaced.
There will be no
meeting in July. The August meeting will probably be held in
Storm Lake.
Cemetery walks were
discussed. Darrell will be sending information by e-mail about
cemetery records. Please look at this program and let him know if
you think that this is something worth purchasing.
The video and its
companion book "Immigration and Passenger Lists" is
available for members to use. Beverly Woolsey took the CD library
home.
Beverly moved to
adjourn. Meeting adjourned.

Stan Bastman
demonstrated how a digital camera works. He also took a photo of
those present.
President Darrell
Easton opened the meeting in the Iowa Community College building
in Storm Lake at 1:30 P.M. The secretarys and
treasurers reports were read and approved. There are
$905.66 in the treasury.
There is a new power
supply needed for the TVator and Stan will get one.
Barb Kamradt is having
the Hinton newspapers microfilmed and the microfilm will be kept
in the Le Mars public library. Stan Oswald moved that $50 be
donated toward the expense of the microfilming. Motion seconded
and carried..
The Akron Club has
started walking their cemeteries. Darrell explained how they are
doing this. Larry Bragwin moved that a cemetery record program be
purchased for our club. Motion seconded and carried.
Darrell brought along
a book that showed how some funeral homes record information. He
also had emergency record folders that are available from some
funeral homes.
Joretta Mohns took the
CD library home and Lillian Heeren took the Ged Com files.
A sympathy card was
sent to Nancy Lilly after the death of her mother.
Joretta Mohns has a
lap top computer for sale.
Larry Bragwin moved to
adjourn the meeting. Seconded and carried.
Lunch was furnished by
Stan and Marilyn Bastman, Joretta Mohns, and Darrell Easton.

The Computer Genies
of NW Iowa met on September 2, 2000, in the American Bank in Le
Mars, Iowa. President Darrell Easton opened the meeting at 1:30
p.m.
The secretarys
and treasurers reports were read and approved. There is a
balance of $930.66 in the treasury.
Two bills were
presented. Larry Bragwin paid $35 for the use of the meeting
room. Joretta Mohns moved that this bill be paid. Seconded and
carried. Darrell Easton had a bill for $270 for the cemetery
program. Larry Bragwin moved to pay this bill. Seconded and
carried.
At this time the
meeting was temporarily closed so that the program could be
started. Darrell Easton had handouts about "Your
Genealogical Education" by Juliana Smith. He also started to
explain the "Aspen 2000" Genealogy Data Management
Program.
The meeting was
reopened.
Darrell DeBoom moved
that any organization that wanted to buy the cemetery program
from us would pay 50% of the cost and be willing to share the
information with our society. Iris Hemmingson seconded the
motion. The motion failed to pass.
Kathy Fisher moved
that any organization that wanted to buy the program from our
society would pay $70 or a subsidized price based on its ability
to pay. Seconded and carried.
Iris Hemmingson moved
to pay Stan Bastman $54.01 for a bill that he presented. Seconded
and carried.
Iris Hemmingson moved
to adjourn. Seconded and carried.
Introductions were

The cemetery program
was then further discussed and explained.

The Computer Genies of NW Iowa met on October 7, 2000, in the
Cherokee Public Library.
President Darrell Easton called the meeting to order at 1:40
p.m..
The secretarys report was read. Kathy Fisher moved that the
words "and that the societies be encouraged to share
information with us" be added to the motion "that any
organization that wanted to buy the program from our society
would pay $70 or a subsidized price based on its ability to pay.
Seconded and carried.
Treasurer Kathy Fisher reported a balance of $569.65 in the
treasury. Larry Bragwin moved to accept the report. Seconded and
carried.
Lorna Brandt presented a bill of $47.31 for newsletter supplies.
Larry Bragwin moved that the bill be paid. Seconded and carried.
The November meeting will probably be in Sioux City and the Aspen
2000 cemetery program be presented.
The December meeting is planned for the 2nd in Le Mars and will
start with a Christmas dinner with the meeting following in the
library.
There was more discussion on the cemetery program and how it
would be used.
Kathy moved that the word "encourage" in the first
motion be changed to "required". Seconded and carried.
It will now read "Any organization that wanted to buy the
program from our society would pay $70 or a subsidized price
based on its ability to pay and that the societies be required to
share information with us."
Kathy moved the meeting be adjourned. Seconded and carried.

The computer Genies
of NW Iowa met in a WIT room in the Sioux City Southern Hills
Mall.
Larry Brangwin called
the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m.
The secretarys
and treasurers reports were read and approved. There are
$531.96 in the treasury.
There were no new
nominations for any of the offices. The present officers agreed
to keep their positions for another year. Stan Oswald moved to
accept this. Seconded and carried.
The December 2nd
meeting will start at noon at Uncle Alberts restaurant in
Le Mars. The restaurant is located next to the Goodwill Store.
The business meeting will follow in the library meeting room.
Please bring Christmas treats.
Iris Hemmingson is
trying to get a grant to help with the cost of microfilming the
Hinton newspapers which will cost between $10,000 and $11,000. A
sponsors name is required. Terri Skow moved that we allow
the Computer Genies name to be used as long as there is no
money involved. Seconded and carried.
Ethel Heidesch and
Lorna Brandt audited the books.
Darrell Easton and
Larry Brangwin plan to set up a yearly schedule. Program
suggestions would be appreciated.
Kathy Fisher moved to
adjourn the meeting. Seconded and carried.

The Computer Genies of NW Iowa met on December 2, 2000, in the
LeMars Public Library after the annual Christmas luncheon at
Uncle Albert's.
President Darrell Easton called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m.
The secretarys report was read and approved. Treasurer
Kathy Fisher reported a balance of $531.96 in the treasury.
Darrel Easton and Janice Danielson gave an update on the Iowa
Genealogical Society Spring Conference to be held in Sioux City
April 27-28, 2001. A motion was made by Stan Bastman and seconded
by Lorna Brandt that we participate in the spring conference.
Larry Brangwin made a motion with Frank Postma seconding to have
a table at the spring conference..
Janice also mentioned the resurrecting of districts from nine to
sixteen.
Hosting a Heritage Quest Seminar was discussed. Stan Bastman will
follow up with Cyndi Howell and Darrell Eaton will follow up with
Heritage Quest.
Stan distributed the club brochure and asked for suggestions for
updating the brochure. New brochures will be printed for 2001.
Stan and Sally Oswald explained the project they have been
working on this fall - they walked the Liberty Cemetery in
Meridan. A motion was made and seconded to donate a copy of Aspen
2000 to the Cherokee Tree Stumpers.
The January meeting will be on the 6th in the library at LeMars.
The Gedcom CD was given to Jim Bilsland.
A thank you to Larry Brangwin for arranging the Christmas
luncheon. It was enjoyed by all who attended.
Stan Bastman presented a short program on Release 8 of Family
Tree Maker.
Lunch was Christmas goodies provided by many member of the club..
