May 7  at 10:00 a.m. – Le Mars Public Library Meeting Room

Program: Edith Munro, Guest Speaker  (Contributing Editor of the IGS Newsletter)

Speaker Edith Munroe of Des Moines, Ia.,  will present a program entitled, ÒSurprise Bag of Family HistoryÓ which will describe using old photographs, documents and on-line examples to explore how the general history of a time and place can help genealogists achieve a richer understanding of family history—and sometimes yield surprising research bonuses.  She will also explain how to mark and preserve old photographs.

Edith Munro is an agricultural journalist with a life-long passion for history that began with her family's stories about homesteading in Nebraska and steel making in Pennsylvania. In recent years, she has begun blending her historical interests with research into her Scottish, Irish, Dutch, and Czech ancestors. Currently she is working to transcribe and edit over 100 family letters from the 1880s and serving as a contributing editor for the Iowa Genealogical Society's newsletter.   Visitors are welcome.
